Pupil size differences between female and male patients after cataract surgery.

Purpose To evaluate the changes in pupil diameter in women and men after cataract surgery. The correlation of pupillary changes with the variables age and anterior chamber depth will be analyzed. Methods The values of 109 randomized eyes who underwent cataract surgery were obtained and divided into two groups, 71 women and 38 men. Pupil diameter was measured preoperatively and 3-months postoperatively using the pupillometer software of the Topolyzer Vario (Wavelight Laser Technologie AG). Pseudoaccommodating intraocular lens implantation in patients with irregular nonreactive pupils.

We report 3 patients implanted with the AcrySof ReSTOR pseudoaccommodating intraocular lens (IOL) who had irregular nonreactive pupils as a consequence of pupil stretching during phacoemulsification. Despite the pupils, the visual acuity at distance and near was not compromised. The outcome in these cases suggests that an irregular nonreactive pupil is not an exclusion criterion for pseudoaccommodating IOL implantation.
The synthetic cannabinoid 5F-MDMB-PICA: A case series

5F-MDMB-PICA has been detected in products sold on the internet as well as in biological samples since 2016. It is associated with serious adverse health and behavioral effects and even death. Herein we report on twelve cases with proven 5F-MDMB-PICA consumption, including three fatalities, four cases of driving under the influence of drugs and five other criminal acts. In these cases, 5F-MDMB-PICA was detected in postmortem blood or serum. Concentrations ranged from 0.1-16ng/mL. In some blood (serum) and urine samples, the hydrolysis metabolite of 5F-MDMB-PICA (M12) could also be detected. Urrets-Zavalia Syndrome After Combined Trabeculotomy-Trabeculectomy Surgery

We report a case of a rare complication after trabeculotomy combined with a small trabeculectomy with mitomycin C in a young patient with juvenile glaucoma. The patient underwent uneventful surgery. However, postoperatively, he experienced a long-lasting hypotony with the need of 2 revision surgeries and 2 short episodes of high-intraocular pressure. He developed a fixed dilated pupil over time.
